Georgia tightens entry rules for UAE tourists with new insurance requirement from January 2026
Health and accident cover now required at the border
DUBAI – One of the most popular short-haul holiday destinations for UAE residents is introducing a significant new entry requirement.
Georgia has confirmed that all foreign visitors, including travellers from the UAE, will need mandatory health and accident insurance to enter the country. The rule takes effect from January 1, 2026, and will be enforced at airports and land borders.
The South Caucasus nation remains a favourite among UAE travellers thanks to visa-free access for many residents, short flight times and affordable city breaks centred around Tbilisi and Batumi.
Insurance rule
From the start of 2026, all tourists arriving in Georgia must carry a valid health and accident insurance policy covering the entire duration of their stay, including arrival and departure dates. The policy can be issued by either a Georgian or foreign insurance provider.
The minimum required coverage is 30,000 Georgian Lari, roughly Dh41,000. Insurance documents must be presented in either physical or electronic form and be available in Georgian or English. Diplomats and freight drivers are exempt from this requirement.
According to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, insurance policies must clearly state contract parties, covered territory, insured risks, coverage period, insurance sum and premium payment terms.
Entry checks
Border authorities in Georgia have tightened document inspections in recent months. Travellers may be asked to present proof of insurance, confirmed accommodation, return or onward tickets and evidence of sufficient funds for their stay.
Passengers without compliant insurance documents risk being denied entry on arrival. Officials have confirmed that enforcement will apply to all nationalities entering Georgia, including visa-free travellers.
Visa status
UAE citizens can continue to enter Georgia without a visa for short stays, typically up to 90 days. Many UAE residents of other nationalities also enjoy visa-free access, provided they hold a valid multiple-entry UAE residence permit.
Under updated rules, some travellers must ensure their UAE residence visa remains valid for at least 12 months on the date of arrival in Georgia. Those who do not meet this condition may need to apply for a Georgian tourist visa or e-Visa before travel.
Flights access
